As the cold set into the forest, a light snow began to fall. It covered the trees and the ground. The bare tree branches swayed in the cool breeze as moonhigh approached. The only sound was from small creatures scurried through the undergrowth.
There was a movement in the shadows. From all around lithe shadowy shapes stalk silently through the undergrowth. Claws shinned in the moonlight and as on a silent signal, creatures leaped at each other and the forest was alive with wrestling, screeching cats. The cats as big as tiger clawed and bit each other.
A pure white she-cat with multi-colored wings leaped at a huge tom and clawed his face. The tom swung around and glared at the she-cat. He leaped on her and pinned her down. The tom lunged for her throat and bit her neck. The she-cat yowled out in pain and then layed limped. “No, BirdSong,” called another voice as it leaped at the tom and dragged him of off BirdSong. She looked down at her dead friend and turned around and faced the tom.
She stared at the tom and was in shock. The she-cat looked around and saw that the other cats had retreated. Looking back at the tom she meowed in a soft voice, “Why did you kill BirdSong?” She raced off and the tom followed her quickly. “BibleCat,” cried a small black she-cat. She raced after her through the forest after them. “HaloPaw, come back,” called another voice. The young she-cat stopped and looked back. “I have to help, SwiftPaw,” she meowed and disappeared in the forest.
HaloPaw looked franticly around, searching were BibleCat has gone. She sniffed the air and looked around. Padding deeper into the forest she heard a loud yowl rang through the forest. The black cat skidded to a halt and then leaped up into the air and flew towards the yowl.
She landed when she came to a small clearing. HaloPaw padded into the clearing and saw another cat over and white cat. HaloPaw froze and stared at the dead cat. The other cat glared at HaloPaw and hissed, “Tell anyone and I will kill you.” The cat raced away, off towards CoreClan camp. HaloPaw slowly padded over to the white she-cat and nuzzled her wings.
She looked around to see if any other cats were around. She sniffed the air. A breeze greeted her with the smell of CoreClan. She leaped to her paws and glanced around. Knowing there was a cat nearby, HaloPaw raced back towards camp.
A young black tom padded over to a calico she-cat. “FaithHeart,” he meowed. “Yes! Where are HaloPaw and BibleCat,” FaithHeart meowed. “A cat chased after BibleCat more into the forest and HaloPaw followed them both,” SwiftPaw meowed.
FaithHeart nodded and padded into the center of the clearing. “I need a patrol to come with me to find HaloPaw and BibleCat. The cats of CoreClan may still be lurking around out in the forest. I want Swiftpaw, SwimmerHeart, GoldenStripe, StarPaw and StormyPaw to come with me. The rest of you can stay here and JayFeather you are in charge.” The inky black tom nodded.
FaithHeart raced out of camp and flicked her tail for the patrol to follow.
“Now, SwiftPaw, where did you see HaloPaw go?” the calico cat meowed. The black apprentice looked around and flicked his tail in the direction where he saw HaloPaw go.
FaithHeart nodded and raced through the undergrowth towards the clearing. SwimmerHeart, SwiftPaw, StarPaw and StormyPaw raced after FaithHeart. SwiftPaw skidded to a halt and padded next to FaithHeart.
HaloPaw padded out of the bushes and looked at the patrol of cat. “HaloPaw,” meowed FaithHeart. HaloPaw’s eye were wide with sadness and fear. “Whats wrong? Where is BibleCat,” she asked.
HaloPaw looked at FaithHeart and at the other cats. “BibleCat is dead,” she cried and collapsed to the ground. SwiftPaw padded over to HaloPaw and licked her shoulder. “Where is she,” he meowed trying hold back from running until her found his leader.
The black she-cat looked up and got to her paws. “Follow me,” she mewed and headed back towards the clearing. FaithHeart, SwimmerHeart and the three apprentices followed HaloPaw.
When the got to the clearing they saw another cat looking down at the white she-cat. SwiftPaw let out a soft growl and SwimmerHeart crouched ready to chase the cat out of the forest, but FaithHeart flicked her tail for them not to show themselves.
HaloPaw watched the cat, not moving and listened to what he was saying.
“I’m sorry, BibleCat,” the tom was saying. “I didn’t mean to do anything.” The tom hung his head low and licked the BibleCat’s cheek. HaloPaw slowly padded out of the bushes and watched the tom. He leaped to his paws and spung around and saw the cats. His eye wide with fear and sadness. He backed up as FaithHeart and SwimmHeart padded out the the brush. “BrokenSoul, what are you doing here,” growled Faithheart. SwiftPaw and StormyPaw padded next to the two warriors. BrokenSoul’s fur began to bristle. He hissed and flew towards the CoreClan boarder. SwimmerHeart and StormyPaw followed closely behind.
FaithHeart raced over to BibleCat and looked down at her dead beloved leader. SwiftPaw nuzzled the she-cat and layed next to BibleCat. HaloPaw looked down at the white cat then at FaithHeart. A warm breeze swirled around her and it carried a familiar. Was that cat that told her that would kill her if she told anyone who killed her watching her. HaloPaw shivered and looked around the clearing.
“Lets get back to camp,” FaithHeart meowed. “SwiftPaw can you go find SwimmerHeart and StormyPaw.” SwiftPaw nodded and flew off.
